With world champion Tyson Gay out due to injury, Florida State’s Walter Dix ran off with the men’s 200-meter dash, nipping 2004 Olympic champion Shawn Crawford by five-thousandths of a second (19.852 to 19.857; officially rounded up to 19.86 for each). Both broke the Hayward Field record of 19.87 set by Lorenzo Daniel in 1988.
Wallace Spearmon, Gay’s teammate when they ran for Arkansas, got up for third (19.90) as fourth-place Rodney Martin tumbled across the finish line in 19.99.
