Tyson Gay update

Global Athletics & Marketing, which manages Tyson Gay’s affairs, issued a statement as the sprinter was being treated with ice and compression. The world champion from Lexington sufferered a severe cramp of his left hamstring and was unable to finish his heat of the 200-meter quarterfinals.

According to Global, Gay said: “Before I went out on the track I felt a little tightness in my hamstring. So I had kind of a bad feeling. When I came off the curve the first two steps were fine, and then I felt it, sort of a pull, about 40 meters in. Once I was on the ground it didn’t hurt as much as when it happened.”

On how he feels about what happened: “It’s just one of those things.”

On what he will do next: “I’ll just get it worked on for a few days.”
