World-champion 200-meter runner Tyson Gay of Lexington continues to be evaluated by the medical staff after pulling up and tumbling to the track early into Saturday’s quarterfinals.
A preliminary diagnosis, according to Barbara Huebner of Global Athletics & Marketing, is a severe cramp. Global represents Gay.
A cramp could be the good news coming out of a bad situation. Although Gay would not be able to participate in the 200 at the Olympics, it’s possible that he could be ready to roll in the 100.
Four years ago at Sacramento, Calif., Gay pulled up in the 200-meter qualifying of the Olympic Trials due to a severe cramp.
Odysseus had Sirens to tempt him.
For me, the Olympics always call. Beijing 2008 marks my 10th Olympics as a writer and, no, I can’t get enough.
