Rodney Martin, fourth at last year’s World Championships, led the semifinalists in 20.04. Shawn Crawford, the 2004 Olympic gold-medalist won his heat in 20.21. Wallace Spearmon, Gay’s teammate when they competed for Arkansas, took second in Martin’s heat, 20.05.
